It is aimed at enlightened and scientific amateurs as well as novices, adults and children.
On three levels, discover Paleolithic and Neolithic tools (bifaces, polished axes), Gallo-Roman funerary furniture, objects from the Roman site of the Cars and 3D video of the monuments, as well as testimonies of the local rural life of the mid-19th to the end of the 20th century (tools, musical instruments, furniture, clothing, etc.). Educational panels at different reading levels, interactive kiosks, videos, complete the exhibits.
This rich and varied ensemble was collected by Marius Vazeilles (1881-1973), a humanist who worked to improve the human condition on the Millevaches Plateau. He was a forester, archaeologist, ethnologist and political activist as a member of the Popular Front.
The museum organizes an annual temporary exhibition, highlighting some of its archaeological or ethnological pieces, which alters the general presentation and allows a permanent (re)discovery of the collections. This year's temporary exhibition is entitled "Surprising Gauls." It will be presented from May 12 to November 3, 2019.
As part of the enhancement of its collections and the territory, the Museum offers cultural programming to allow access to culture for all through outings, conferences, guided tours, workshops, etc. Find all the info on our website: http://www.mariusvazeilles.fr
